Kathleen M. Gonnam, 92, formerly of rural Verona, Illinois, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 14, 2012, in St. Paul’s Nursing Home in Greenville, PA., with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 29, 1919 in the home of her parents, Oliver and Vietta Woods Madison in Mazon Township, Grundy County, Illinois. She received her education in the Mazon schools and graduated from Mazon High School with the Class of 1936. She attended Gregg Business College in Chicago, Illinois, and later on was employed as a secretary. Kathleen married the love of her life, Byrl Gonnam, on January 7, 1939 in the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church in Morris, Illinois. With her loving husband, they farmed for over 40 years in Vienna Township in Grundy County. She was a member of the Verona Methodist Church, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Norman Homemakers Club, and the Home Bureau unit in Norman Township. Surviving is her son Kerry, and his wife, Donna Gonnam of Meadville, PA.; and her four granddaughters, Jorie and her husband Brian Novacek of Erie, PA., Sarah and her husband, Chris Ward, Nashua, N. H., Susan and her husband, Greg Beato, Blacksburg, VA.; and Robin and her husband, Jack Goodman, Kalamazoo, MI.; one great grandson, Hunter Ward; one great granddaughter, Allison Novacek; one brother, Norman and his wife, Doris Madison, Mazon, IL.; two sister-in-laws, Gwendolyn Gonnam, Morris, IL. and Jean Wooden, Verona, IL.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, and her husband, Byrl, on February 28, 1997. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jill Bunker of the Verona Methodist Church officiating at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, Illinois. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Kathleen’s memory directed to St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, PA. 16125 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
