Joseph Ravens

Joseph “Joe” F. Ravens, 66, of Dothan, Ala., formerly of Kankakee, died Sunday (Feb. 2, 2014) peacefully at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1947, in Kankakee, the son of Clarence F. and Frances Amelia Rogers Ravens. He was married to Pamela D. Ravens for 45 wonderful years, she survives in Alabama. He was a retired Kankakee firefighter, worked proudly for the Puccini family at United Sales and currently worked for Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He served proudly with distinction in Vietnam as part of the U.S. Army Combat Engineering division from 1967 to1969. Joe was a loving and devoted family man who was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Survivors include one son, Timothy Ravens along with his family Tiffany Taylor, Tim’s stepdaughters, Amanda and Alyssa and his granddaughter, Brihanna. Also Joe’s two honorary sons, Danny Winfield and Jim Clark; and Joe’s special devoted pet companion, Butkis; special honorary family members Judy Duggins, her son, Aaron Bunnell and his daughter, Zoey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rich Ravens and family of Elkville, John and Virginia Ravens and family, of Custer Park, Ron and Joyce Ravens and family, of Kankakee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Lloyd Holdman and family, of Kankakee, Barb and Rich Corsaro and family, of Essex, Debbie and Larry DuCharme and family, of California; plus many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins and their families. And awaiting his arrival are his parents, Clarence and Frances; his brothers, Bob and Jim; and his other loyal pet companions, Bertha Jo and Buddy. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of Joe Ravens to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital –, Vietnam Veterans – or to the Humane Society-
