Albert A. “Al” Vermillion

Albert A. “Al” Vermillion 92 of Clinton, IL passed away 7:29 PM, December 16, 2016 at the John Warner Hospital & Health Services, Clinton, IL.


Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Rev. Stephen Killion officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors. Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Monday, December 19, 2016 at the funeral home.


Memorials may be directed to the Clinton Eagles or the Clinton United Methodist Church.


Al was born July 7, 1924 in Clinton, IL the son of Herbert A. and Jennie Mae (Hubler) Vermillion. He married Donna L. Johnson January 4, 1953 in Clinton, IL. She passed away March 1, 2005.


Survivors include his daughters, Mikki (Jim) Burns, Clinton, IL; Barbara (Harlan) Powers, Clinton, IL; Sara Williamson, Richardson, TX; Diana (John) Leach, Maroa, IL; 6 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren and special nephew, Dick (Linda Schmid) Wagers, Clinton, IL.


He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 1 brother.


Al was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, the Eagles, Elks and the American Legion. He was a past member of the Clinton County Club. Al owned and operated the Vermillion Bowl and Grill which he built in 1959 before retiring in 1989. He was a WW II Marine Corp veteran stationed in Hawaii. He took the Honor Flight on November 10 and 11, 2012 and was chosen to put a wreath on the Marine Corp Memorial. Al could be seen sporting his red pants on Friday nights, and he enjoyed driving his 1985 Oldsmobile station wagon that he nicknamed “Flivver”. He was a lifelong, die hard Cubs fan.
