Myrtle Marie Kessinger, 88, of Carlinville passed away Monday morning, May 15, 2017, at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville.
Myrtle graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1947. She married Wayne Earl “Keek” Kessinger Sr. on April 17, 1948, in Carlinville; he passed away on May 28, 1995.
Myrtle retired in 1983 after over 30 years of employment with the Macoupin County Highway Department as a clerk. She was a lifelong member of Blooming Grove Christian Church in rural Palmyra and was a past president of the Ladies’ VFW Auxiliary. Myrtle and her husband owned and operated Keek and Myrt’s Tavern in Standard City for several years. She loved to read, embroider and crochet and was known also as “Myrtie,” “Mom,” “Grammy,” and “Great-Grams.”
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Richard Bivin.
Visitation was held Wednesday, May 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Scott Bayles officiating. Burial followed in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.
Myrtle is survived by her son, Wayne (Terry) Kessinger Jr. of Carbondale; granddaughter, Alanna (Jeremy) Oster of Bloomington; grandson, Adam (Chareassa) Kessinger of West Columbia, S.C.; great-grandsons, Elias and Josiah Oster and Ethan Kessinger; sisters, Allie Jo (Mike) Meikamp of Edwardsville and Margie Hickerson of Pekin; 14 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
