Mary Shirley Hanko, 92, of Tinley Park, formerly Chicago Heights and Brooksville, FL, passed away Jan. 20, 2018. Mother of Kathie (Dennis) Diette and Ed (Rita) Hanko. Grandmother of Tracey (Edward) Deddo, Michael (Debbie) Diette, Kristina (Adam) Rotroff, Katie (Daryl) Sweeney, Sarah Hanko, and Joseph (Cassie) Hanko. Great-grandmother of Ava, Madison, Dennis Diette; Regan, Brynn, Elin Rotroff; Anderson and Peyton Sweeney. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Hanko in 1999 and her parents: John and Mabel Willauer. Born and raised in Chicago Heights, Mrs. Hanko, married her husband in 1946 and also raised her family there. She worked for a time at Marian Catholic High School as a cafeteria cashier and later as a demonstrator at Sam’s Club. After moving to Tinley Park in 2000, she was an active member of St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr in Tinley Park and enjoyed the Young at Heart Group. She loved gardening and playing cards, especially canasta and bunco. A memorial mass will be held on Sat., Jan 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Church, 7500 84th Ave, Tinley Park, IL 60487. Interment following at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL.
