Lola A. (Knutti) Baumgardt, age 95, of Chadwick, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick. Burial will take place in Chadwick Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church.
Lola was born March 1, 1923, in Stockton, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Pohl) Miller. She grew up on a farm and attended Lena schools. Lola married Walter Knutti on April 23, 1941, they were married for 18 years until Walter’s passing in October 1959. She later married Vernon “Babe” Baumgardt on October 23, 1971, and they were married for 41 years until Vernon’s passing in 2013.
Lola worked at Atwoods in Mt. Carroll and Structo in Freeport, Illinois for many years. She was known for restoring dolls and made beautiful doll clothes. She liked making her famous sour cream cookies for family and friends. Lola also loved traveling with her husband, Vernon.
Lola will be dearly missed by six sons, Roger (Connie) Knutti of Lanark, Illinois, Larry (Char) Knutti of Pecatonica, Illinois, Steve (April) Knutti of Chadwick, Mark (Deb) Knutti of Sterling, Illinois, Dave (Kalah) Knutti of Chadwick, and Rick (Janet) Baumgardt of Chadwick; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Knutti of Milledgeville, Illinois; 66 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Mayer of Stockton, Illinois, Pauline Trost of Lena, Illinois and Inez Meier of Chadwick.
Lola is preceded in death by both husbands; three children, LaVern Knutti, Marvin Knutti, and Lana Thulen; two brothers, Alan Miller and Harlan Miller; and two sisters, Sylvia Kohl and Eleanor Handel.
