Mary Beth Manning

Mary Beth Manning, 98, of Roodhouse died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Heritage Health Care in Jacksonville. She was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of Guy Harold and Mary Emma Treadway Husted. She married A. Ross Manning, Sept. 25, 1942, in Virginia. He proceeded her in death, Feb. 10, 2014.

Surviving are three children, Dr. David R. Manning of Springfield, Dr. Guy H. Manning (Robin) of Orland Park, and Mary Ardis Buchanan (John) of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, Laura Ann Ripol, Shelley Beth Donnelly, Gracie, Hannah and Gabe Manning, Jodie Talluto, Jill Dring, and Joel Buchanan and Megan Johnson; 17 great grandchildren, Dain and Annie Ripol, Liam, Rowan, Corbin, Clara Donnelly, Nolan Manning, Joe, Josh, and Jacob Talluto, Jim and Ella Dring, Kole and Kora Buchanan and Henry, Charlie and Theo Johnson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ann Christie McDade and Haroldine Ruth Musch.

Mrs. Manning graduated from Virginia High School in 1937, Stephens College in 1939, the University of Illinois in 1941 and the University of Illinois in 1972 with her Masters Degree. She was a home economics teacher at Roodhouse High School and later at North Greene High School. She was also a guidance counselor at North Green High School. For over 60 years, she was a member of the PEO sisterhood chapter B.U. in Roodhouse. Mary Beth participated in many cantatas and performances as a member of the North Greene Singers. She was a member of the First Christian Church of White Hall, Rev. James Caldwell Chapter of NSDAR, IEA and NEA.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the First Christian Church in White Hall with interment in the Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse. The family will meet friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to First Christian Church of White Hall, Fernwood Cemetery or Roodhouse Public Library.
