George Phillip Kistler, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on July 17, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. George was born on December 4, 1928, in Rushville, IL; the son of the late Max and Ruby (Euyler) Kistler. George married Brenda Peters at First Christian Church in Petersburg on June 4, 1967; where they have been members for many years. George proudly served our country in the Marines. George worked as a nuclear physicist, wrote many science fiction and fact stories and articles, and enjoyed working as captain of the Talisman Riverboat in Petersburg.
George is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Brenda Kistler of Petersburg, his siblings Max William “Bill” (Rhea) Kistler of Camarillo, CA, Nancy (Jerry) Pryor of Rushville, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
To honor George’s wishes cremation rites were accorded by Hurley Funeral Home. The family will receive guests in George’s memory at the First Christian Church in Petersburg on Friday, July 20, from 10 am until the time of a memorial service celebrated by Rev. Rick Williams at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials in George’s name be made to a charity of the giver’s choice; with thoughts towards relentless disease research or to animal rescue.
