Norma “Elaine” Johnson (née Kroon), aged 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16 in Batavia, Illinois. Elaine was born June 29, 1932 in Loda. She was the oldest of three children born to Milton and Mildred Kroon. She graduated from Paxton High School and North Park College, and worked in the Department of Home Missions for the Evangelical Covenant Church. Elaine married Harry Johnson on September 4, 1954 in Paxton. Together they had three children and lived most of their married life in Wooster, Ohio. After Harry’s death in 1998, Elaine moved back to Illinois where she lived at a Covenant Retirement Community in Batavia and attended Batavia Covenant Church. During their years in Ohio, the family was active at North Haven Covenant Church, and was devoted to the ministry of Camp Mission Meadows in Dewittville, New York. The joys of her life were her extended family, her many close friends, and her church. She is survived by son Steven Johnson (Marybeth), daughters Carol Johnson and Cheryl Theilen (Rich), granddaughters Kristin Theilen and McKinley Johnson, brother, Darrel Kroon (Carol), and many nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, and sister, Darlene Carpenter. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 23 at Glen Cemetery in Paxton. Memorial service will be Tuesday, July 24, 2:30 PM in the Town Center at the Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia. Memorials preferred to Camp Mission Meadows or North Park University.
