On Thursday July 19, 2018, Ron Meyer passed away at home at the age of 71 after a brief stay at the hospital because of heart complications. He was born March 5, 1947 in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of Milton and Marie Meyer, who preceded him in death.
Ron will be sadly missed by his sisters and brothers, Carolyn (Harvey) Mink, Roger (Rita) Meyer, Robert Meyer, Sherry (John) Wagner, and Pam (Dean) Rood, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and cousins.
Ron attended grade school and high school in Rankin and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a Masters degree in Mathematics, Ron taught Math, Physics and Chemistry at the high school in Dwight, Illinois, before returning to farming in Iroquois County. There he was on the local FS Board, where he served as secretary.
Ron was always available to answer farm questions and previously helped his younger brothers and sisters with their science and math homework. He was an avid learner throughout his life and was interested in a wide variety of subjects. He was also an accomplished photographer and frequently took pictures at family gatherings and weddings, often capturing special moments missed by others. Ron enjoyed talking with others and was a great source of knowledge of farming for his siblings. He had a great sense of humor and was always sending cartoons with his written communications
Ron was very concise in emails and letters. This obituary was lovingly prepared by his brothers and sisters. If he had written his own obituary, it would have said “Ron Meyer: born, died”.
