Jack W. Kampmeier

Jack W. “Smiling Jack” Kampmeier age 90, of Mt. Carroll passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at FHN Hospital in Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Jack’s memory.

Jack was born April 3, 1928 in Freeport, the son of Fred and Alma (Wenger) Kampmeier. He attended Stockton Country Schools in Stockton, Illinois. Jack married Deloris “Dee” Brown on August 15, 1964. They celebrated 53 years together. Jack began his career as a farmer before selling cars. Jack sold cars for many years and for many dealers in the area before owning his own dealership. Jack was one of the last few dealers that would do a deal on a handshake. Jack later owned and operated the Black Angus in Savanna, the Dairy Queen in Mt. Carroll and built Kampmeier’s Dee-Delite in Lanark, Illinois.

Jack enjoyed hobby farming, snowmobiling, and was a relentless card player. Jack was a kind-hearted man, who always put others needs before his own. Being around people, brought Jack joy. Most of all, Jack cherished the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Dee; four children, Michael (Kim) Haller of Anchorage, Alaska, Todd (Anne) Kampmeier of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Jodi (John) Slick of Roscoe, Illinois, Brian (Amanda) Kampmeier of Savanna, Illinois; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
