Aaron Joseph Averbuch, 79, of Champaign died January 10, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Aaron was born in Chicago, Illinois to Clara and Sol Averbuch on April 17, 1939. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, he went on to achieve his PhD at the University of Illinois. He worked as an electrical engineer at the US Army Construction
Engineering Research Laboratory for many years before his retirement. He married Trudy Tepper in 1964. She preceded him in death, as well as both his parents.
He is survived by his children, Mindy Davids, Lisa Averbuch and Michael Averbuch; and their granddaughter, Sierra Averbuch. He is also survived by his sister Joyce (Fivel) Falk; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Aaron enjoyed building and fixing computers and electronics, watching science-fiction shows, and listening to classical music. Above all else, he adored his family and spending time with them.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday January 11, 2019 at the Sinai Temple, 3104 Windsor Rd, Champaign, IL 61822. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign.
Donations in Aaron’s memory may be made to Sinai Temple’s Yesod L’Atid renovation campaign. Funds received will go toward the improvement of the Temple’s audio-visual technologies to which Aaron brought so much passion and expertise.
