Earl Brelie

Earl Brelie, 91, died Sept. 13. Brelie joined the Chicago Fire Dept. in 1948. He held positions of lieutenant, captain, chief of Emergency Medical Services and battalion chief. He retired in 1991. Survived by his children and their spouses; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and his parents. Wilhelm Graf, 94, was born in Yugoslavia. He died Sept. 6. Upon his immigration to the United States in the 1950s, he became a production supervisor for a small manufacturing company for 25 years. He concluded his career as a custodian for High School Dist. 214. Survived by his children Deborah Graf, Kurt Graf and Heidi Graf; his brother as well as nieces and nephews. Edwin Henricks, 88, died Sept. 12. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was principal at Dryden Elementary School in Arlington Heights. A longtime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Survived by his wife, Barbara Henricks; his children; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. Judith Martin, 78, died Sept. 8, at her home. Martin worked as a waitress at Eddie’s Lounge for seven years as well as hostess at Arlington Trackside for eight years. She was a member of St. James Women’s club and N.A.M.I., A longtime parishioner at St. James Catholic Church involved with helping PADS, serving funeral luncheons, and running a ministry at the Arlington Park Backstretch. Survived by her children Deborah L. Grant, Richard B. Carpenter Jr. and Jeffrey S. Carpenter; her 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings and nieces and nephews. Filip Ozarowski

Filip Ozarowski, 97, died on Sept. 13. Husband of the late Maria; father of four sons, grandfather of 10 grandchildren and great-grandfather of three. He was a lieutenant, Polish veteran of Home Army, 27th Wolyn Infantry Division. He wrote two books in Polish and one in English about the tragic fate of the population in the Wolyn region and the major role of the division in defending the people living there. He was the last living soldier of the division. Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles, handled arrangements.

Shirley H. Rood, 92, died Sept 7. Wife of the late Ray J. Mother; grandmother of six; great-grandmother of four. Shirley was the daughter of the late Henry and Ann Ayasse, sister of Lois Tolf and the late Betty Pierson. Shirley grew up in Chicago and graduated from Von Stueben High School 1944. She married her high school sweetheart. She worked in banking, did the accounting for the family business and was an office manager. Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge, handled arrangements.
