Acton-Margaret 2ROCKFORD – Margaret Lillian Acton (nee Bell) (85) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Margaret was born in Chicago, IL in 1934, living her formative years in Oak Park and then Villa Park, and attended York High School in Elmhurst, IL. Margaret is survived by her loving husband Raymond of Lombard, IL to whom she was married 67 years. Beloved mother of Thomas (Carol), Linda (James Ferguson) and Robert (Polly).  Margaret was a cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her children Laura Dawn, Karen Louise and James Russell, her brother James Bell, her mother Dorothy Bell, and her father James Bell Sr.  While raising three of her children, Margaret had the unique experience of dedicating almost two decades to providing daily therapeutic care to her children who were afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Margaret would spend several hours daily treating the effects of this critical respiratory and digestive disease. This determined effort was also reflected in her resolve to live a full life despite the ever-increasing effects of Parkinson’s Disease. Margaret was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving congregations at Trinity Lutheran Church, York Center, IL (41 years) and First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, MN (20 years) where she and Ray made many dear, lifelong friends. In addition to regular worship attendance and participation in Bible study, Margaret enjoyed sharing her needlecraft talents, making quilts and other crafts for the benefit of others. Ray and Marge hand-built countless wood projects for gifts to their family, friends and donations for charitable causes. Margaret loved homemaking, cooking, being outdoors, vegetable gardening, fishing on Wasson Lake with Ray, their children and grandchildren, taking long walks, and evening card games friends and family. A funeral service celebrating Margaret’s life in Christ which continues eternally, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood, Illinois, officiated by Rev. Dr. Matthew Rosebrock, husband to Margaret’s granddaughter Kimberly Rosebrock.  Margaret will lie in state beginning at 9:00 am on Monday January 20, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Graveside services will commence at 1:00 pm at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, the Family asks that any memorial gifts extended in Margaret’s honor be forwarded to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood, IL. The Family also extends our most sincere expression of gratitude to the Wesley Willows Community as well as to Heartland Hospice for the compassion, friendship and love shown to Margaret.
