Janette M. Roath, nee Eckman, age 91, of Lombard

Janette Marilyn Roath nee Eckman, born November 11, 1928, went home to be with her Savior on March 25, 2020.  Janette was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, the first child of Arvid and Sylvia Eckman.

Janette attended a Lutheran School in Maywood through 3rd grade. Her family then moved to Lombard, where she attended Lincoln School, graduating in 1942, and Glenbard High School, graduating in 1946.  Janette studied at Wheaton College for two years. She then trained as a comptometrist and worked in the accounting department of the U.S. Rubber Company.

Janette married her high school sweetheart, LeRoy, on June 4, 1949. She was grateful that she was able to be a full-time homemaker, and poured her energies into creating a warm and loving home, while actively supporting her husband in his business. She helped to create the annual Roy’s Auto Christmas letter and typed the hundreds of mailing addresses for sending them to his customers. Her cherished roles of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were fulfilled with love and kindness, patience, faith, and prayer.  Through her gift of hospitality, Janette graciously welcomed family and friends to her home for Sunday dinners and many special occasions.

Janette served in many ministries at the Lombard Bible Church including Bible Studies, Ladies’ Meetings, the Seniors Group, and as a deaconess. For many years she guided the class for the 2 and 3 year old children and welcomed many new babies to the Cradle Roll with wise advice and home-baked cookies for the families.  As a resident of the Beacon Hill Retirement Community, Janette volunteered in positions of leadership and community service.

Janette was preceded in death by her loving husband LeRoy J. Roath, Jr. and by her parents, Sylvia and Arvid Eckman.

She is survived by her brother Ray (Ginny) Eckman of Arkansas; daughters Linda (Bruce) Masopust of Michigan, Cindy (Ken) Cox of Florida, and Andrea (Ryan) Harris of Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren: Brian Masopust of Michigan, Beth (Eric) Hull of Michigan, Zach (Elspeth) Harris of Chicago, Ethan Harris of Wisconsin, Linnea (Ryan) Geller of Wisconsin; 2 great-grandchildren, Tate and Jordyn Hull; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Private Service for the Family will be held on Monday, March 30, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst. Plans for a Memorial Service have not been decided.

Memorials in memory of Janette may be sent to Lombard Bible Church, 111 S. Park Ave., Lombard, IL 60148.
