Margaret A. Felt

Margaret A. Felt

Born 6/17/1918; died 3/14/2021

Born to Elizabeth and Frank Ray Felt during the 1918 Spanish flu in Chicago, IL, raised in Bellwood, IL; resided in Palatine, IL from 1975 to 2019.

Margaret attended Moser Business College in 1937 and began a career with Morton Manufacturing.  While her brothers, Loren and James Felt, were overseas for approximately 3 years during World War II, Margaret began her caretaking of her parents.  After WWII, her brothers encouraged Margaret to go to the University of Illinois in Champaign leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in 1950.  After graduation, she began a 42- year career with The Northern Trust in Chicago where she developed some of her many cherished friendships that continued until the end of her life. Margaret enjoyed late-night laughter-filled nights of card playing with her brothers and their wives, Roberta and Mary Jane. There was nothing Margaret would not do for her family including making 3 different breakfasts for three children who stayed with her on weekends whenever they could. To know Margaret was to love her, to be inspired by her, and to crave her exceptional cookies.  Completely unselfish, undeterred, and unlike anyone you have ever met, they broke the mold when they made Margaret Anne. Margaret retired in 1993 at the young age of 75, delaying retirement so that she could ride the train with her niece while her niece attended law school. Margaret lived a life with the motto of, “You can’t beat fun.”  She attributed her long life to “good behavior”, which she did not recommend, and “peace of mind, the best thing going.”  Margaret led the conga line for many birthday celebrations including #100.  She said the first 101 ½ years were a piece of cake.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brothers and their wives, Judge James Henry (Mary Jane) Felt and Loren Bovard (Roberta) Felt, and sadly, too many friends to list including Shirley Cunningham, her neighbor, and travel partner. She is survived by her nieces and nephews who were the light of her life: Elizabeth Felt Wakeman (Ray), Margo Felt, John B. Felt (Jordan Peavey), Pamela Wise (Roger Wise), Peggy Lynne D’Iorio, Jay B. Felt (Denise Cuddy), Carol Regan (Thomas), Debra Doe (Michael), 18 great-nieces and nephews, including her beloved great- nephew, Stephen J. Wakeman, and 8 great-great nieces and nephews.  She knew all of their birthdays and anniversaries which were always acknowledged with a timely card and Facebook post up until the time of her passing.  She loved to interact with her family and friends in person, by Zoom, by email, and by Facebook and if iPad did not work, we had an emergency!

Special thanks to the team at Bickford Senior Living in Crystal Lake for their dedication during the last year.  A graveside service will be held on June 25, 2021, at Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois and a celebration of her life will follow.  For information, contact the funeral home 773-736-3833 or [email protected].  Contributions in Margaret’s memory are appreciated to University of Illinois Foundation or CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) https://nationalcasagal.org/
